Mellon Educate Kenya

The Kenyan capital of Nairobi was to be the venue for Mellon Educates first ever school building blitz. , Sadly, the inaugural October building blitz with 350 Irish volunteers was cancelled due to security concerns, following a terrorist attack on the city’s Westgate Mall. However, the 100-strong local Kenyan workforce  completed the new school on schedule despite the last minute loss of workforce.

Mellon Educate first projects were completed in April 2013. The two schools were ‘’Mukuru kwa Ruben’’ and ‘’St. Catherine Primary School  in the South B area of Nairobi. These schools were situated in two of the most populated informal settlements in Kenya and in Nairobi County. The schools originally built by the Irish  Sisters’ of Mercy and identified by one nun in particular known as Sister Mary in an effort to provide education to children living in these areas.

Mellon Educate became a fully registered NGO in Kenya in 2013 and is managed by Gabriel Karigey Mellon Educate representative in Kenya.
