STAGES OF SUPPORT

PHASE 1: NEEDS ANALYSIS

The needs analysis is conducted at each school to determine the nature and scope of support required and takes place after consultations with the School and stakeholders already involved.

On completion of the 360 degree overview, the recommended intervention and support is presented to the school and an agreement is reached which will define the next steps and the potential for further input if required. The needs analysis typically addresses the following areas:

  • Basic Functionality of the School
  • Leadership management and Communication
  • Governance and Relationships
  • Quality of Teaching and Learning, Education Development
  • Curriculum Provision and Resources
  • Learner Achievement through Teacher Development
  • School Safety, Security and Discipline
  • School Infrastructure
  • Parents and Community

PHASE 2: INFRASTRUCTURE

Mellon Housing Initiative, together with Mellon Educate and our
international volunteers, undertake construction programmes
each year.

All our school construction projects are selected in
partnership with the Education departments in the various
provinces, ensuring that where possible the most under
resourced schools receive priority.

Between 2013 and 2018 we have built 113 classrooms and
refurbished more than 28 schools impacting on the learning
environment of more than 30 000 learners.

PHASE 3: SUPPORT PARTNERSHIP

The outcomes of the Needs Analysis help’s to inform and define the way forward in consultation with the school management team. An agreement is formalized detailing the support offered by Mellon Educate at the school.

The focus areas will include formal leadership development, training, mentoring and advising for all stakeholders. In 2018 Mellon Educate has support partnerships with 8 schools across the Western Cape.

PHASE 3-4: FULL OPERATING PARTNERSHIP

In this phase Mellon Educate may be approached by one of our existing school partners in the support phase, or by the Education Department, to assume full responsibility for the school and at this point Mellon Educate becomes the School Operating Partner. This partnership is a direct agreement with the Western Cape Education Department.

Mellon Educate is committed to fully supporting the community and SGB to deliver quality education and facilitate a fully functioning school.
